How do I choose my coffee?
For its taste at first, we seek the balance between bitterness and acidity. However, everyone perceives flavors in their own way, a balanced coffee for you will not necessarily be for everyone. Take into account that a so-called “strong” or “full-bodied” coffee will be more bitter, for example, while a “mild” coffee will have greater aromatic power. Then come the flavors of coffee, whether fruity, grassy, spicy, chocolate… These flavors vary according to the variety of the coffee tree, the method of drying the beans and then their roasting, which allows a multiplicity of combinations and to necessarily have a coffee to your liking! The moment of its consumption also plays an important role in the choice of your beverage: sweet or rather full-bodied to facilitate your awakening? Fruity after lunch or floral for the 4 p.m. break? It is not uncommon to drink a different coffee depending on the time you drink it.
How do I properly store my coffee?
The good conservation of your coffee depends on the preservation of its freshness and its taste, whether it is already ground or still in beans. Although it is not perishable, coffee has an optimal expiry date: from 2 months after the roasting date, your coffee beans will begin to oxidize. Your drink won't be bad, it will just have less flavor. It is the oxidation of the beans that causes them to lose their aromas. As a result, coffee, if stored already ground, will oxidize faster than coffee beans. The method of preservation is up to you: in resealable sealed bags or in airtight boxes. The objective is to preserve the coffee from air, light, humidity and excessive temperature variations. Between 18 and 22°C, your coffee will stay tasty longer. However, it is not recommended to keep it in the fridge for reasons of humidity and absorption of odors from the fridge.
Should you buy your coffee beans or already ground?
It is often said that "good coffee" is freshly ground coffee, and with good reason. With a longer shelf life for coffee beans, the flavor of your drink will be better preserved if they have just been through a grinder. Another advantage of grains: the choice of grind. Depending on the coffee maker and method you use, you may get the grind that matches it if you grind it yourself. The purchase of ground coffee, however, saves time but will need to be stored in good conditions and consumed as quickly as possible. In the end, the choice is yours! But you now have all the elements to determine what will suit you best.
